December 7th ACTION ALERT

December 7, 2010, Anniversary of Japan’s Attack on Pearl Harbor

ACT today! Ask Senators to STOP Ratification
of New START Treaty

Georgia Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson must heed the following message:

“Don’t let Obama and Harry Reid’s Lame-Duck Senate repudiate Ronald Reagan!  Reagan was a consistent stalwart booster of U.S. anti-missile defenses.  He won the Cold War by standing firm upon his plan to build an ABM.  Obama’s New START Treaty ties our hands against building anti-missile defenses to protect American lives from all the bad guys of the world.  The Lame Duck session absolutely must NOT ratify this dangerous treaty.”

– Phyllis Schlafly (1), Eagle Forum Founder and President

Talking Points:

  • A lame-duck session is not the place to decide on such a gravely important issue.
  • The treaty is not verifiable, says Senator Kit Bond, Intelligence Committee ranking member.
  • The Senate has never voted its consent on an arms control treaty in a lame-duck session.
  • Newly elected senators won’t be seated until January, but eleven of them asked to have “a say” in the New START ratification.  They cannot participate, if it’s considered before then.
  • The Senate never ratified SALT II, because over 34 senators opposed it.
  • The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty was rejected by a majority of senators.
  • The Senate must see the New START negotiating record BEFORE voting its consent.
  • Senators must not repeat the health care debacle and pass legislation without understanding it.
  • The Treaty leaves Russia with thousands more so-called “tactical” nuclear weapons – an inequality that could prove dangerous and destabilizing to allies.
  • Foreign Relations Committee hearings on New START were unbalanced and misleading.

ACTION – Ask Georgia’s U.S. Senators to defeat ratification of a New START Treaty.

(1) Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly, contemporary and fellow patriot of President Ronald Reagan, joined him in battle during crisis after crisis and won vitally important victories to protect this country.  He would not sign an unverifiable treaty, such as New START, which is far too crucial for lame-duck politicians to decide.
