God Could Really Use a Few Good Men

Good morning, Jim. On this Christmas Day I’m reminded of a time the Lord looked down from Heaven, trying to find a man to stand in the gap, but he found no one. That’s our situation right now. There are too few righteous men and even fewer standing for the Lord, these days.
Remember King David? He killed Goliath with the only weapon he knew how to use – a homemade sling that sent a deadly stone into the giant’s forehead. After the Lord anointed him King, David ran for his life and hid in caves, because King Saul put him on the “most wanted” list. But, eventually, he became king and commander-in-chief of Israel. So, David was a politician, a soldier, man of prayer and a leader who openly declared dependence on his Maker.
Then, there’s George Washington, a brilliant general and the first president of the U.S. He led the colonies to lay the foundation of the greatest country the world has ever seen. History tells us that a week before Christmas in 1777, his army wintered at Valley Forge where he and his men could more easily defend themselves against the enemy. Although the barefoot and half-naked makeshift army built huts to live in so they wouldn’t freeze, 2,500 of them died that winter and some of the horses starved to death, but the “spirit of liberty” kept the men together. Of that miraculous march in the snow, Washington said, “…you might have tracked the army from White Marsh to Valley Forge by the blood of their feet.” Washington was a soldier, a politician, man of prayer and a leader who openly declared dependence on his Maker.
We can reach back into history and see the providence of God. He led David to defeat Goliath and guided him as king. Centuries later, God gave marvelous victories to General George Washington and wisdom to serve as the first United States president. Today, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, but look past the cradle and focus on the battle He fought and won on the Cross, where He gave His blood so we could have eternal life. As I thank Him for that and much, much more, I’m asking Him to send another David or another Georgia Washington to lead us to victory in this struggle for the very existence of the United States. As Americans who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we must confess our sin, so God can bless us again! To the Lord Jesus Christ, I say, “Happy birthday, Lord!” and to you I say, “Merry Christmas!” For Georgia Insight I’m Sue Ella Deadwyler.
