H.R. 3571, The Defund ACORN Act
Ask Georgia Congressmen to support H.R. 3571 because …
It prohibits ACORN and its affiliates from receiving a federal contract, grant, cooperative agreement, or any other form of agreement (including a memorandum of understanding).
It prohibits ACORN from receiving any federal funds in any other form, whatsoever.
It prohibits the promotion of ACORN by any federal employee or contractor (including recommending to a person or referring to a person for any purpose).
On September 15, 2009, U.S. Congressman Boehner introduced H.R. 3571, which was signed by 115 if his fellow members of congress. Two of ACORN’s shady activities are as follows:
Florida ACORN employees were arrested for falsifying voter applications leading up to the 2008 elections.
ACORN employees were video-taped in multiple ACORN offices as they offered to falsify tax returns and help a “pimp” and a “prostitute” obtain a mortgage to buy a house for their prostitution business and to house underage illegal aliens who would work as prostitutes.
For decades ACORN has received and used millions or billions of taxpayer dollars, including millions under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee. However, that can be stopped. This month, by a vote of 83 – 7 the U.S. Senate prohibited taxpayer funding for ACORN under the Treasury, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations bill for FY 2010. The U.S. House must vote on it or it will not become law.
But that’s not all. ACORN is eligible for more federal taxpayer money under the economic stimulus bill enacted earlier this year. ACORN funding is likely to continue unless the organization and its use of federal money are thoroughly investigated as requested in the letter by Representative Boehner and the 115 congressmen.
