The Sleeping Giant Woke Up
Radio Commentary, 90.7, 91.7 New Life FM, November 11, 2016 – By Sue Ella Deadwyler
This week we witnessed a first-class, last-minute miracle by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who demonstrated such absolute precision that only He could have pulled it off.
There has never been an election like the one we just had, and there might never be another one like it. The previous voting record set when 3.9 million ballots were cast in 2008 was broken Tuesday, as 74 percent of Georgia’s 6.6 million registered voters went to the polls. When all votes were counted in Georgia, Donald Trump had received 2,068,623 (51.3 %) to Hillary Clinton’s 1,837,300 (45.6 %), an outcome that stunned those who thought Clinton’s election was inevitable, but encouraged those who believe Trump is the “last hope for America!” The numbers are firm and Clinton conceded, but the count won’t be official until the state canvass is certified.
At age 70, Donald Trump is the oldest person elected to a first term as President of the United States. When he’s inaugurated January 20, 2017, he will be 70 years, seven months and seven days old, according to the Jewish calendar. I mention that, because the number seven is spiritually significant in Christianity and Judaism.Donald Trump is the first person to be elected to the presidency without having military or government experience. He’s the first New Yorker elected to that office since Franklin Roosevelt. Everyone knows Ronald Reagan was an actor, but President-elect Donald Trump will be the first star of a reality show to preside over the world’s most powerful country.
Concerns about the country forced U.S. citizens to wake up and reclaim their God-given responsibility to influence government, and, now, no one can afford to go back to sleep. Since government is ordained by God and government is here to stay, our responsibility is to “occupy ’til He comes,” and there’s more work to be done.
Thankfully, I have more good news! We dodged a bullet when voters defeated Amendment Number One. As a result, Georgia’s elected state school superintendent will continue to oversee every school district in the State. However, if Amendment Number One had passed, the governor could have hired anyone from anywhere in the world to usurp the power of the duly elected state school superintendent and take total control of as many as 20 schools per year.
If that had happened, the authority of locally elected school boards would have been destroyed, parents would have no control over public education, and public schools would have been subject to a gubernatorial appointee, answerable to the governor, but not to voters. Representative government is under attack, but it’s worth fighting for. So, get ready, the General Assembly convenes in January. For Georgia Insight I’m Sue Ella Deadwyler, your Capitol correspondent.
