Dangers of This Lame-Duck Session

Good morning, Jim. Right now, Congress is being pressured to pass extremely dangerous bills in the lame-duck session that ends when new members take their oath of office January 3rd, 2011. Until then, Democrats are still in the majority and can pass pretty much what they want. It was a lame-duck session when Democrats passed NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement. Although it’s only a law that was never ratified by two-thirds of senators, some argue that NAFTA obligates the U.S. to let in Mexican trucks.
As for this lame-duck session, some very dangerous bills could pass, including the almost ten-year-old DREAM Act, that was defeated in Congress just two months ago. The DREAM Act is said to provide amnesty and immediate green cards only to illegal alien teenagers and put them on a path to citizenship, but it does much more. It applies mostly to individuals up to age 35. So, it actually, facilitates amnesty for adult illegal aliens, PLUS their extended families, including parents and others that brought them here illegally, PLUS relatives they left behind.
Supporters of the DREAM Act say only 2.1 million teenagers would get green cards, but that number is expected to double or triple. If this passes, illegal aliens could access federal student loans, federal work-study programs and qualify for in-state tuition at public universities. These are the facts. There’s no limit to the number of illegal aliens who would get amnesty. There is no date to end the application period and nothing to stop future illegal aliens from getting amnesty. too.
In addition to that, no alien who files amnesty papers could be deported until after a judge denies his application and, even then, the case could be in the appeals court for years. Every illegal alien applying for amnesty would move to the front of the line, ahead of millions who have been in line to come here the right way.
Call U.S. Senators Chambliss and Isakson, as well as your U.S. Congressman at 1 877 851-6437* and ask for their office. Then ask them to vote NO on the DREAM Act, whenever it’s on the calendar. Or you may accept a generous offer and send computer faxes free-of-charge. The offer was made by NumbersUSA, a Washington-based conservative organization that stays current on illegal alien issues.
